Chapter 7

But there is no time for lingering. The knight makes a lasso from the rope, throwing it towards the opposite side of the gulf.

She had been reluctant to start out across the rope, fearing that she had not the strength to haul herself to the other side, fearful of the fathomless drop below. She had also feared that more horrors might confront them in the dark passages the other side...

But the knight had explained to her that there was no other option, that it was a risk they had to take. To retrace their steps towards the gargers' nest would be suicide. There was no chance of successfully climbing the long way down the sheer chasm and back up the far side. The only other option was staying on the ledge, and there didn't seem to be much profit in that!

She has inched her way across, not daring to look down, but now she freezes, as a bat's wing brushes her straining arm. The knight shouts at her not to let go...

Having made it across they start to make their way through the passage towards the outside world. The sound of an unseen torrent prevents them from hearing approaching footsteps...

Where the two passages meet they are confronted by a warrior, with a primed bow in hand.
