Lady in black/Whitby Jet

oil on canvas, 41x53cm

Gordon Napier (reworked July 2007)

This piece was inspired in spirit by St Mary's Graveyard in Whitby, on the high craggy cliff adjacent to the ruined abbey. Many dark gravestones rise from the grass against the steely grey North Sea. Dracula could hardly have chosen a better spot to claim his first victim on English soil!
